Future Golf Australia, Mobile App

Designing the Tee Time Discovery Experience

Future Golf, an Australia-based golf membership platform, was preparing to launch a new integration with MiClub to allow members to book tee times directly in-app. I was brought on for a short design engagement to explore how this experience could look and function within their mobile app.

Research and Insights

Finding the issue
  • Simplify the process of discovering and booking tee times within the Future Golf mobile app.
  • Create a seamless integration flow with MiClub, allowing in-app end-to-end booking.
  • Reduce user confusion around golf terms (e.g., Stableford, handicap) and course availability.
  • Design for both new golfers (simplicity) and regular members (efficiency).
  • Increase member engagement by making tee-time booking a core in-app feature.

Planning & iteration

TO THE DRAWING BOARD
  • “Ease of discovery” is more important than “amount of data shown.”
  • Visual feedback (e.g., colour-coded availability, icons) improves user decision speed.
  • Beginners need contextual help at each step (e.g., “What is a GolfLink number?”).
  • Returning users value smart defaults — saved course preferences and location-based suggestions.
  • Incentivising last-minute bookings can help course utilisation and user engagement.

    Design Execution

    A two-way design system
  • Quick Book Widget: Added a one-tap “Find a Round Near Me” button using location services.
  • Progressive Flow: Split booking into 3 simple steps — Find → Review → Confirm.
  • Visual Hierarchy: Replaced lists with card-style results showing course photo, distance, and time.
  • Smart Filtering: Integrated filters for “Nearby,” “Last Minute,” and “Favorite Courses.”
  • Microcopy: Added tooltips and inline explanations for golf-specific terms.
